Telegram
Connect a Telegram bot with one token; Sellio checks it and registers the webhook for you.
What it does
Telegram support runs through a bot you create with BotFather. Customers message the bot; the messages land in the inbox; replies go back through the bot. It is the quickest channel to connect because Telegram needs no app review and no business verification.
Before you start
- A Telegram account, and the BotFather chat open.
- A bot: send /newbot to BotFather, pick a name and a username ending in bot, and copy the token it gives you.
Connect it
- 1In Sellio, open Settings, then Integrations, and choose Telegram.
- 2Enter a channel name and paste the bot token.
- 3Save. Sellio calls Telegram's getMe to confirm the token and registers the webhook itself; there is no URL to paste anywhere.
- 4Open the bot in Telegram, press Start, and send a message. It appears in the inbox; reply from there.
✦
Set the bot's description and profile picture in BotFather (/setdescription, /setuserpic); that is what customers see before their first message.
⚠
A bot connects to one Sellio workspace at a time, and cannot also be polled by another program: Telegram delivers each update to one place. Disconnecting the channel releases the bot.
Once connected
- Each Telegram user who messages the bot is one conversation.
- Replies go out through the bot, with no time window: Telegram lets a bot reply whenever the user has started it.
- Photos, voice notes, videos and files the user sends arrive as attachments, up to 20 MB each (Telegram's limit for bots). Stickers, locations and shared contacts arrive as text.
- Only private chats with the bot reach the inbox; messages in groups the bot is added to are ignored.
- The AI agent and customer-message automations do not run on Telegram; they work on website chat only.
Connected channels count against the plan’s channel limit (one on Free, three on Mini, five on Essentials, twenty-five on Plus); see Plans and billing. Disconnecting a channel keeps its past conversations in the inbox.
What teams use this channel for, and how it compares, is on the Telegram page.
